GCash and Zolo Forge Partnership to Combat E-waste

Groundbreaking partnership addresses tech industry’s growing environmental challenge

GCash, the Philippines’ leading finance super app and largest cashless ecosystem, is proud to announce a new partnership with Zolo, a global leader in sustainable IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) solutions and a trusted full-service provider of IT asset management. This collaboration aims to minimize the environmental impact of electronic waste by responsibly refurbishing and reselling unused devices.

According to The Global e-Waste Monitor 2024 report, the Philippines generated 540 million kg of e-waste in 2022, with lack of access to proper e-waste disposal facilities as one of the key contributors to this challenge. E-waste is one of the biggest challenges of the digital age, and GCash is leading the way in managing its carbon footprint and promoting responsible e-waste management.

“By finding ways to extend the life of devices and embracing creative approaches to repurpose and recycle, we’re doing more than reducing waste—we're advocating for a sustainable economy, one where resources are reused, valued, and given new life,” said Pebbles Sy, chief technology and operations officer at GCash. “This collaboration proves that when like-minded organizations join forces, we can achieve so much more for the planet and our communities.”

Zolo, an Australian company with operations in the Philippines and a carbon-neutral company that helps businesses manage their IT assets sustainably, shares GCash’s vision of a greener planet. By extending the lifecycle of electronic devices, Zolo helps conserve resources and reduce the demand for new materials.

“It is a pleasure for us as someone who is trying to push the boundaries of sustainability to find a partner that we can do this with. It is not easy in the Philippines to find such a partnership,” said Saar Herman, country manager at Zolo. “At Zolo Philippines, we are deeply committed to bringing sustainability into places, companies, and communities.”

This partnership aligns with GCash’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability, which include its GForest initiative. Launched in 2019, GForest has evolved from a reforestation effort into a significant eco-movement, now encompassing agroforestry to support the livelihoods of local communities. By working together, GCash and Zolo aim to inspire other organizations to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to a healthier planet. To date, over 2,810,000 trees have been planted by the movement created by GForest, covering 11,600 hectares and providing incremental livelihood to 8,600 farmers.

Meanwhile, proceeds of GCash’s partnership with Zolo will go to the ABS-CBN Foundation, a non-profit organization active in environmental stewardship and community service.

“GCash has created a movement that allows millions of Filipinos to participate in meaningful action to protect the environment and combat climate change. Now, we’re leading the charge for another movement—addressing e-waste and expanding the lifecycle of unused devices,” stated CJ Alegre, sustainability head at GCash. "We are forging a sustainable legacy. Together, we are pioneering a sustainable revolution in fintech where every transaction brings us closer to a greener future.”

Order PSA Documents Online at PSAHelpline.ph: Allow Someone in Your Household to Receive It

PSAHelpline.ph provides a user-friendly online platform that simplifies the process of obtaining vital documents. By eliminating the need for physical visits to PSA offices, customers can conveniently place their orders online and select their preferred payment method. Once the order is processed, the documents are securely delivered to the designated address.

To maintain the highest standards of security, PSAHelpline.ph requires the physical presence of the certificate owner or authorized requester at the time of delivery. A valid government-issued ID is necessary to verify the recipient's identity and authorize the release of the documents. This stringent verification process safeguards against unauthorized access and ensures that the certificates reach the intended individuals.

Recognizing that unforeseen circumstances may arise, PSAHelpline.ph offers a flexible solution: the Authorized Representative feature. This allows customers to designate a trusted adult household member to receive the documents on their behalf. The authorized representative must present a valid government-issued ID to the courier to claim the certificates. By providing this option, PSAHelpline.ph aims to cater to the diverse needs of its customers and enhance the overall delivery experience.

How does the Authorized Representative Delivery Option Work?

PSAHelpline.ph offers flexibility for those who can't personally receive their documents. You can easily designate an authorized person to receive your PSA certificates on your behalf. This is especially useful for busy individuals or those who might not be available during delivery times.

Upon selecting the Authorized Person to Receive option, the applicant will be sent two emails. An email outlining the order details and payment instructions and a separate email providing a guide for appointing an authorized representative to receive the PSA certificate.

1. Simply click the "Authorized Person to Receive Form" button that is found in the email. This will direct the applicant to the authorized representative page.

2. In the page where you assign an Authorized Person to Receive, click ‘Next” if the applicant agrees to assign an authorized representative who is at least 18 years old and resides in the same household.

3. Applicant chooses an ID from the list to be uploaded and validated.

4. Applicant scans the QR code or uploads a clear image of the ID selected. The system will verify the details on the uploaded ID. To ensure successful validation, make sure the personal information on the ID matches the information provided in the order form.

5. If the uploaded ID is a National ID, the applicant will undergo a face verification process to confirm their identity as a real person.

6. Fill out the form with the personal and contact details of the assigned authorized person to receive.

7. Read and verify the information. If everything is correct, click the ‘Sign Letter of Authorization’ button

8. The Authorized Person to Receive will be successfully assigned with the summary of details shown.

9. If your order is not yet paid, you can now proceed to the payment section.

Your authorized person to receive is now ready to accept your PSA certificate! Just a friendly reminder: have them show a valid ID to the courier for smooth verification and document release.
