Play for Life: A Board Game That Sums Up Adulting

One day you're okay and the next day, you're not!
These are realities of life that I realized as an adult.

Why? Because Life happens... We have our small and big wins. We get paid after working so hard but there are also utilities, bills, and living expenses. We even have emergencies we never expect to happen to us. There is just so much going on. Sometimes it gets overwhelming.

Life is also full of choices. We just have to make the right ones to succeed.

So, how do we know if we’re making the right choices?

There is no clear answer but I am glad that Sun Life Philippines and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) teamed up to bring coffee breaks to a whole new level by making financial literacy more fun and interactive through a series of events across the country called "Coffee and Play"

Last Saturday, I was invited to experience Sun Life’s original board game, Play for Life: A Game of Choices with versions specifically designed for employees and professionals, business owners, and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and I can say that this board game truly captures the essence of "adulting." It's relatable as the scenarios presented are highly likely to happen in real life. The game is an eye-opener. It was "scary" and inspiring at the same time.

In just a short time, I had several realizations. One card, in particular, really hit home.

If you have been following my blog, you'll know that I lost my mom last December and that really affected us not just emotionally but also financially. Losing a parent is life-changing and it taught me hard life lessons -- realities that I never fully considered when I was younger.

This is why I was impressed that the game addressed this. People need to understand these hard truths—the ones we must prepare for, or else we risk being caught off guard.

By the way, the game isn't all serious. We had our fair share of laughs too, especially when faced with funny scenarios like deciding whether to have a date night even when funds are tight. Trivial stuff that I know many young adults can resonate with. No wonder the response to the Play for Life board game was so positive during its launch early this year

Now, here's the best part -- this game is available for everyone!
Because every Filipino especially the millennials and the Gen Zs NEED play this.
